At the beginning, GATARIS project is Ludovic’s idea. Son of a mechanics industrial, grandson of a mechanics industrial and mechanic industrial himself… the project was born during the 90’s as an answer to a simple question: “what to produce in Robillard workshop (www.robillard-sarl.com) where I pass my childhood and that currently lack work?” Games? Let’s give it a try.
At that time design is made in front of machine and based on wild ideas. Everything is machined. A wooden and metallic game range is created from scratch within 3 month and immediately exposed at the FLIP (International Parthenay’s Ludo Festival) and at the Boulogne’s contest. Surprisingly the game presented to Boulogne’s game design contest (Palanquée) got a 5000 ff prize and the whole range got good reception from FLIP visitors and press.
On the other hand market reception was limited because oak wood copper brass production was way too expensive.
In 2003 a new approach : « the law of series » allow market potential measurement of the most promising game “the Karpan’s axioms” who will become the Tamashido as there is a Spanish toys brand named Karpan.
